Nabisco products introduced a snack product called SnackWell's in early 1992, which included a line of creme, shortbread and devil's food cake cookies, marketed as low-calorie, low-sugar and low-fat "diet" food. Jumping on the bandwagon of the billion-dollar diet food industry, Nabisco grabbed a piece of the pie, or "cookie," but missed the mark on "healthy" by adding high fructose corn syrup, a sweetener shown to be anything but a healthy diet food.

A single serving of two SnackWell's Crème Sandwich cookies equals 26g, with eight servings in one 7.75 oz. package. Varieties include Sugar-Free Shortbread and Sugar-Free Lemon Crème Sandwich cookies, Crème Sandwich, Chocolate Mint, Black Forest and Devil's Food Cookie Cakes.

Ingredients

SnackWell's Creme sandwich cookies contain enriched flour, sugar, vegetable shortening, dextrose, corn flour, glycerin, whey and high fructose corn syrup. Additional ingredients include leavening, such as baking soda and calcium phosphate, cornstarch, emulsifiers, mono and diglycerides, sodium stearoyl, lactylate, salt, wheat starch, cellulose gum and gel, natural and artificial flavor. Each flavor may have additional ingredients, such as skim milk and cocoa.
