Saturated Fats

Popcorn at movie theaters is usually popped in highly saturated coconut oil. A small bag of buttered movie popcorn is actually a 7-cup serving that contains a half-day's worth of saturated fat. Some theaters use non-hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated vegetable oil, but neither type is good for you.

Calories in Movie Popcorn

The calories can add up, depending on how much popcorn you eat and how much butter you add. A small bag of movie theater popcorn popped in butter contains 630 calories and 50 g of total fat, according to MyFitnessPal. Skipping the butter will spare you an extra 200 calories and 23 g of fat.
