Standard bottles of red or white wine are 750 ml. When wine is sold in a carafe instead of a bottle, the measurement that is used is normally a liter.

White Wine

White wine includes such varieties as Pinot Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Riesling and Chenin Blanc. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Nutrient Database, there are 820 calories in 1 liter of generic white wine. The caloric value will vary among the varieties. For example, Pinot Blanc has 807 calories and Pinot Grigio 827.

Red Wine

Red wine includes such varieties as Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Shiraz and Merlot. One liter of generic red wine contains 850 calories. As with white wine, the caloric value will vary among the varieties. Merlot has 830 calories and Pinot Noir 820.

Considerations

A standard serving size for wine is 5 oz. There are about seven glasses of wine in a 1-liter carafe.
