Imagine a world where your vision is blurry. You go to the optometrist and are diagnosed with astigmatism, a defect in the cornea (surface layer of the eye) that can wreak havoc on your vision. You refuse to wear glasses and your doctor provides the option of getting toric contact lenses. According to Bausch and Lomb, toric contact lenses treat astigmatism and contain AerGel (silicone hydrogel material) for comfort. There are specific steps to insert and remove toric contact lenses.
Step 1
Wash your hands with soap and water before inserting your toric contact lense. Dry them well.
Step 2
Pour the lens cleaning solution into your right hand and place a contact lens there to rinse it.
Step 3
Hold out your right index finger and place the newly rinsed contact lens onto this finger.
Step 4
Check to see if the lens is inside-out. It should bow or curve and make a "c" shape. Adjust the lens so it lies on its proper side.
Step 5
Hold your upper right eyelid with your left index finger and pull your lower right eyelid with your left middle finger. Continue to keep your right index finger outstretched so the contact lens doesn't fall off.
Step 6
Bend your head forward and look up toward a mirror.
Step 7
Place the contact lens in your eye using your right index finger.
Step 8
Remove your bottom finger and then remove your top finger.
Step 9
Look down and close your eyes. This will help position the toric contact lens.
Step 10
Repeat steps 1 through 8 for the left eye using the right hand to retract your eyelid.
Step 11
Wash your hands with soap and water before removing your toric contact lenses.
Step 12
Open the contact lens case and put contact lens solution into it so stored contact lenses can soak overnight.
Step 13
Bend your head forward and look up at the mirror.
Step 14
Using a finger, slide the right toric contact lens from the middle of your eye to the white part of your eye.
Step 15
Pick up the contact lens from the white part of your eye with your thumb and finger.
Step 16
Clean the toric contact lens with lens cleaning solution and store it in the contact lens container containing the lens solution.
Step 17
Repeat steps 10 to 14 to remove the toric contact lense from your left eye.
Tips and Warnings
- When sliding your contact lens from the middle of your eye to the white part of your eye, do not let go of the lens. Putting a contact lens in your eye can initially be complicated, so be patient.
