The Thermorexin diet management system is purported to boost metabolism, control appetite and burn stored fat for energy. The official Thermorexin website indicates the supplement helps you eat less while still having plenty of energy to exercise. The capsules contain numerous herbs, as well as some vitamins and minerals. Although Thermorexin is intended to help people lose weight, the official website does not claim the weight loss is rapid. Consult a qualified health-care provider before taking any weight-loss pills.

Primary Herbal Component

Thermorexin labeling does not indicate specific amounts of its herbal components, although it does state that 98 percent of the proprietary herbal formula consists of green tea. Polyphenols, chemical plant compounds with anti-oxidant properties in green tea may boost metabolism and have fat-burning activity, notes the University of Maryland Medical Center. The main polyphenol in green tea is epigallocatechin gallate, and the green tea in Thermorexin is 45 percent epigallocatechin gallate, according to the product label. Green tea also contains caffeine, which may stimulate metabolism and promote weight loss, says the University of Maryland Medical Center.

Other Ingredients

Thermorexin contains black tea, another caffeine-containing component, along with additional caffeine listed as an individual ingredient. Labeling for this product shows yohimbine, the active ingredient of yohimbe, an herb mainly used as an aphrodisiac and stimulant, as well as synephrine from bitter orange, which also has stimulant properties. Other herbal ingredients include ginger root extract, piperine and rhodiola. In addition, Thermorexin contains amino acids, B vitamins, vitamin C, copper, magnesium and zinc. Zinc may increase lean body mass and reduce fat mass, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center.

Usage

The official website suggests beginning with one capsule per day and taking it with your first meal. You may take one to two capsules up to three times daily, but most people do fine with one or two twice per day. Take Thermorexin with food, or it can cause an upset stomach.

Diet Recommendations

The official website encourages taking Thermorexin while eating a moderate- to high-carbohydrate diet and taking another of its supplements claimed to enhance glucose uptake. Using Thermorexin while eating a low-carbohydrate diet can cause you to be hungry despite the appetite-suppressant effects.

Side Effects

Caffeine can cause side effects if you are not used to it or if you consume it in excessive amounts. These effects may include heart palpitations, dizziness, irritability, insomnia, nausea and diarrhea, as noted by the University of Maryland Medical Center. Flushing may occur because of increased blood flow near the skin to release heat generated by an increased metabolism. The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine says synephrine is similar to ephedra, a substance with stimulant effects that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration banned from weight-loss supplements because it can cause high-blood pressure and has been linked to reports of stroke and heart attack.
