Nordic Track offers various motorized treadmill models to meet the needs of both average usage homeowners and hardcore exercisers desiring a commercial-quality machine. Various belt and deck sizes accommodate both smaller to mid-sized users and taller ones who require a longer stride. These treadmills also feature several adjustable options to vary your workout. Since most Nordic Track treadmills are built with some of the same components and features, they experience similar problems.
Significance
Troubleshooting your Nordic Track treadmill on your own may save you money on expensive parts and service. If you are unable to resolve a problem, call the manufacturer for service, but since similar problems occur with most Nordic Track treadmill models, take the time to first go through all the common issues that these treadmills tend to present after some wear and tear.
Types
Problems with a Nordic Track treadmill may involve the console not turning on, turning off during use or displaying incorrect information. Also, the walking belt may become off-center or need tightened or loosened.
Solutions
To resolve console problems, push the power cord in to make sure it's securely plugged in. Check the circuit breaker on the treadmill; switch it to the "reset" position, if necessary. The console may display incorrect information if it's in demo mode; you can usually turn this off by holding the "Stop" button for a few seconds. Fix other console issues by adjusting the reed switch, located within the motor, or addressing issues with the heart rate monitor's operation. To operate the heart rate monitor correctly, grab the hand grips securely while keeping your hands still. Adjust the walking belt, if you experience problems with it, by using the included hex key. Turn the roller bolts on the back of the treadmill with the hex key to center the belt, or tighten or loosen it.
Prevention
To prevent Nordic Track treadmill problems, place the treadmill on a level surface and plug it into a grounded outlet or a surge suppressor that is plugged into a grounded outlet. Keep the treadmill inside away from cold, heat and wet conditions. Don't let anyone exceeding the weight limit use the treadmill, and remember to have only one person at a time on the treadmill. Unplug the treadmill after each use and when making adjustments or cleaning. Check if all parts feel tight before you use the treadmill; tighten if not.
