If you've ever failed a diet before because it just didn't fit your lifestyle, you may want to look at Physicians Weight Loss Centers. If one of Physicians' diets doesn't suit your needs, the center offers five other diets supplemented with over 150 in-house-designed nutrition products to fit everyone's needs. Each diet, designed by a licensed dietitian, has been formulated to provide the balanced amount of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, fibers and vitamins and minerals needed for a healthy weight loss program. The franchise-based Physicians Weight Loss Centers are primarily located on the East Coast. Visit a Physicians Weight Loss Center, or its online equivalent to join (see "Resources").
Fast Weight Loss Diets
The original, aggressive weight-loss diet, the Very Low Calorie Diet 800, is a low-carb, high-protein diet for swift weight loss of three or more pounds a week. The Low Fat High Energy 900 diet offers maximum weight loss on a low-fat, low-calorie diet that provides about 900 calories a day. This diet offers the fewest choices to help you with an easily structured diet.
Slow-and-Steady Diets
The Low Fat High Energy 1000 diet offers dieters more choices and variety. The low-fat, low-calorie diet is designed for slow-and-steady weight loss and allows more flexibility when you're planning meals. The Low Fat High Energy 1500 diet offers even more flexibility when you're planning meals and controlling your weight on a lifelong basis. This is a balanced diet designed for slow-and-steady weight loss over time and offers the most variety and highest number of calories for people who are physically fit and want to stay that way.
Low-Carb Diet
The Thermogenic Low Calorie Diet 1000 offers a low-carb diet with more choices for you to have variety. Also called the Controlled Carb LCD 1000, the diet restricts carbs and includes three meals a day with a distribution of 45 percent protein, 30 percent carbohydrate and 25 percent fat.
Meal-Replacement Diet
The Physicians Fast Meal Replacement Program is designed for you if you don't have time to plan meals and stay still long enough to eat them. This low-carb, high-protein diet offers specially formulated puddings, shakes, soups and crispy bar supplements for four meal replacements per day, with one dinner meal you plan yourself.
Choosing a Diet
When you enroll in a Physicians Weight Loss Center franchise, the first step is to undergo an evaluation by PWLC staff. You will be weighed and have your current body fat calculated and your body measurements taken and recorded. Paperwork includes a standard medical questionnaire, a comprehensive weight-loss history and your own personal goal sheet. The Center's medical staff will do a blood work-up and administer an EKG. The Center's physician will next give you a physical exam. Staff assessment of all of your data determines which of the six diet programs will work best for you.
Learning Your Diet
Once the best diet for you has been selected, your menu plan will be customized by a licensed dietitian who will keep your specific nutritional needs in mind. As you begin your diet and become more comfortable with its ins and outs, you are monitored and supported by PWLC staff counselors. Every week, your weight, body measurements and body composition analyses will be recorded, and you'll attend a behavioral guidance class.
Pros and Cons
Enrollment at a PWLC can be expensive, so if you are financially unable to enroll in-house, or are unable to locate a center nearby, a Physicians Weight Loss program version is available online (see "Resources"). Chase Freedom Diet Reviews states that PWLC's online program "is typical in terms of bells and whistles to other online programs on the market." The same six diets are available online, as are PWLC brand products ranging from from vitamin and mineral supplements to pre-packaged foods. "Our only quibble is [PWLC's] blase attitude about exercise as a critical component to weight loss and maintenance," states Chase Freedom. "It's equally important as balanced, sensible eating in the struggle for healthy weight."
