Jacob's Creek is an Australian winery founded in the mid-1800s. It makes four main varieties of wine: classic, sparkling, reserve and super premium. The classic wines cover both red and white varietals.
Identification
Jacob's Creek chardonnay is considered one of its classic wines. The 2009 vintage is measured at 12.7 percent alcohol by volume. While the winery does not provide specific caloric information on its wines, a 3.5-oz. glass of chardonnay typically has 76 calories.
Other Nutrition Facts
Chardonnay has few beneficial vitamins or minerals. The USDA National Nutrient Database notes that white wine, in general, has about 3 g of carbohydrate in a 5-oz. serving and about 1.5 g of sugar.
Expert Insight
A 2004 study by M. Flechtner-Mors and colleagues and published in the "International Journal of Obesity and Related Metabolic Disorders" found that though most diets forbid alcohol as empty calories, abstention from alcohol made no difference in weight loss. The study participants who drank moderate amounts of white wine while following a calorie-restricted diet lost the same amount of weight as those who drank grape juice on the same diet.
