Riesling is a white wine that can be made either dry or sweet. It can be served with Indian or Chinese meals, as it pairs well with spicy foods.
Identification
A 4-oz. serving of Riesling contains about 90 calories. This makes it a lighter wine than many red wines; however, the caloric content is not the only factor to consider when making a nutrition choice.
Considerations
Wines of any color contain some antioxidants that may help increase good cholesterol and improve overall health, as well as a flavenoid, resveratrol, that is good for your heart. However, red wines have higher amounts of both of these compounds.
Expert Insight
According to the USDA National Nutrient Database, Riesling contains few beneficial nutrients. A 5-oz. serving contains 5 g of carbohydrate and about 14 g of alcohol. It does not contain any vitamins or minerals.
