Low-calorie diets are the most popular way to lose weight quickly. However, some types of low calorie diets will slow your metabolism and should be avoided or used moderately.

Prolonged consumption of low calorie diets may lead to slowed metabolism due to loss of lean muscle tissue.

The function of a low calorie diet is to lose weight at a rapid pace. Rapid would be considered more than the recommended one or two pounds per week.

Time Frame

The time frame of low-calorie dieting is relatively short. Usually low-calorie diets last from three to six months.
