Losing weight through body wraps created at home is an inexpensive yet very effective method that when added to dieting and exercise, promotes a toned appearance and enhances weight loss. Body wraps can be created with a variety of supplies and ingredients to suit nearly every taste or fancy. Most ingredients for homemade body wraps can be found at a grocery or natural health food store, while other ingredients may be ordered online.
Step 1
Purchase a body wrap kit for an easy, pre-prepared solution. Most pre-mixed body wraps can be purchased for about $30 to $40 on the Internet and contain the body wrap blend as well as wrapping strips. Most of these kits only require you to add water to the dry wrap ingredients.
Step 2
Create your own herbal body wrap mixture at home. Some ingredients of homemade wraps using your own recipe may contain lavender, sage, lemon oil, olive oil, sandlewood and rosemary, just to name a few. For example, you can mix your own herbal body wrap by combining one cup of green clay (also called bentonite and available at most health food stores) with one-fourth cup of sea salt, 2 tablespoons of olive oil and 2 cups of water. This mixture will create a thick paste that you rub onto your skin.
Step 3
Wrap your body with strips of sheeting, towels or plastic (Saran wrap works well) following application of the mixture to your skin. Wrap the skin tightly, but not so tight as to restrict circulation or sensation in the hands and feet. Find a comfortable place to lay down for approximately 45 minutes to an hour. Many individuals recommend a bathtub, but you can place an old blanket on your floor or bed and lie down there for more comfort.
Step 4
After 45 minutes to an hour has passed, take a warm shower to cleanse the mixture from your skin and to open pores in the skin. Remember to drink plenty of water before and after the treatment to help flush toxins from the body.
