Although deer meat is not commonly found in stores, it does provide a leaner source of protein than many other types of meat. However, it is not calorie- or fat-free, so check nutrition facts if you are on a strict diet.

Calories

The online nutrition resource MyFitnessPal notes that a 4-oz. serving of deer meat provides 179 calories. This is lower in calories than some other meats; MyFitnessPal notes that just 3 oz. of ground beef contains 218 calories.

Protein

Protein provides most of the calories in deer meat. MyFitnessPal notes that 4 oz. of deer meat contains 34 g of protein. The Harvard School of Public Health explains that protein is a vital nutrient, and suggests that you consume between 20 percent and 25 percent of your daily calories from protein.

Fat

Deer meat is relatively low in fat. According to MyFitnessPal, 4 oz. of deer meat contains just 4 g of fat. This is much less than ground beef, as a 3 oz. serving of that meat contains 13 g of fat.

Carbohydrates

Four oz. of deer meat does not contain any carbohydrates, according to MyFitnessPal.
