Types of Yoga Kunda

Yoga is a Sanskrit word which translates to union in English. The varying branches of yoga emphasize the use of this deepening and strengthening body practice to encourage a union of the human body with mind and spirit. Kunda is also Sanskrit and translates literally to serpent. The symbol of the serpent represents the root or base energy center in the human body located at the tail or base of the spine. Kunda is one of seven energy centers in the human body also commonly referred to as chakras. The three lower chakras are most commonly balanced when raising or enhancing the kunda through yoga. Each energy center holds a connection to specific mental and emotional states and the body poses bring awareness to these chakras. The practice then facilitates opening, strengthening and clarifying the coordinating mental/emotional states as supported by The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine.
