Chai is the word for "tea" in Hindi, and has come to be known as a type of spiced tea in the U.S. Chai is flavored with cinnamon, cardamom and other sweet spices, which may vary according to manufacturer. Chai tea with soy milk is a healthy beverage that is appropriate for any time of day.

Calories

Tea without any additions contains only two calories, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The calories in a cup of chai tea come from what you add to it. Drink a chai latte with 1 cup of added soy milk and you'll be consuming approximately 105 calories. Add a splash of 2 tbsp. of soy milk to chai tea, and the tea will have only 15 calories. Keep in mind that sugar adds 16 calories per added tsp.

Basic Nutrition

If you drink your chai with a cup of soy milk, you will get 18 g of carbohydrates, 4 g of protein and 2 g of fat. Some of the carbohydrates in soy milk are due to added sugar. You can reduce the amount of carbohydrates, and thus calories, that you consume when you drink 1 cup of chai tea with soy milk by using unsweetened soy milk. Add only 2 tbsp. of soy milk to your chai, and you will be consuming 2.5 g of carbohydrates, 1/2 g of protein and virtually no fat.

Benefits

Getting some of your calories from chai tea with soy milk may be a good idea, as soy milk may help lower cholesterol, according to the Health Services department at Columbia University. Tea also has benefits, as it is high in antioxidants that can help protect against cancer and other diseases.
