When it comes to wearing perfume at work, your choice should be applied sparingly with a light hand so as not to overwhelm anyone, especially those with a sensitivity or allergy to perfumes, which can cause nausea and headaches.
According to the Forbes.com article, "Mixing Business with Fragrance," the Fragrance Foundation, an international organization of fragrance professionals, tested several perfumes on female candidates going out on job interviews. The results indicated that fresh, fruity or citrus scents were preferred by both male and female interviewers. With these results in mind, there are certain fragrances generally considered suitable for the workplace.

Close by The Gap

Marie Claire describes "Close" by The Gap as a light floral, crisp and citrus fruity scent that is both "transparent and sparkling." Keeping in mind the results of the Fragrance Foundation study, Close meets the criteria for fragrances that are appropriate for the workplace. A 3.4 oz. spray bottle of Close sells for $35.

Ginger Essence by Origins

The article "Perfume for the Occasion: For the Office" from the For the Love of Perfume Blog lists Ginger Essence by Origins as a great perfume spray for work. Ginger Essence contains hints of lemon and lime, a citrus scent that meets the Fragrance Foundation criteria. The blog describes the scent as "universally appealing and perfect for an afternoon slump. A 1.7 oz. bottle can be purchased for $40.
