If you have dry hair and scalp, shampooing your hair with a moisturizing shampoo can help. But before you reach for a commercial brand of shampoo, consider mixing up your own. Natural shampoos lack the harsh chemicals and dyes found in manufactured varieties, and you can make your own quite inexpensively. According to Health Services at Columbia University, aloe vera gel is all natural and can help soothe dry hair and scalp. Adding it to a homemade shampoo recipe can help put an end to your dry hair woes.

Step 1

Pour ¼ cup of liquid castile soap into a medium bowl.

Step 2

Squeeze ¼ cup of aloe vera gel into the bowl containing the castile soap. Combine the liquid castile soap and vera gel using a wire whisk.

Step 3

Stir in 1 tsp. of glycerin and ¼ tsp. of vegetable oil.

Step 4

Set a funnel in the top of an old, clean shampoo bottle or other type of plastic 8-oz. squeeze bottle. Pour the contents of the bowl into the shampoo bottle.
