Proper preparation for a football game is important for fans and players alike. Football is an emotional game, so players and fans have created methods for sustaining high-energy levels through the course of an entire game.
Pep Rallies
Pep rallies are a fun method of creating school spirit and excitement for your upcoming game. Generally, the rallies are held in a school gymnasium, or school auditorium. To create excitement and anticipation for your rally, you need to promote it with signs and banners throughout the school. If it is to be held on a Friday, make announcements promoting it, starting on Monday of that week. At the rally, play the school song as students and players enter the gymnasium. Have all the students and teachers wear the school colors. Introduce each player on the team, via loudspeaker, as they run to the center of the floor. Create fun activities that symbolically represent your dominance over the other school.
Field House Music
Play high energy music in your field house before the game. As the players are dressing out, play classic rock songs that can inspire and motivate. Examples of classic rock songs that can motivate your players would be, "We Are The Champions" by Queen, or the theme from the movie "Rocky." High-energy music can help your players generate the necessary adrenaline to start the game with a strong effort.
Tailgating
Tailgating is the practice of you and your friends getting together in the stadium parking lot during a football game. Tailgating gatherings are held in a designated area, where fans can barbecue, and consume food and beverages. The idea is to produce excitement before and during the game. Make sure that your friends wear team colors, and are prepared to sing the team song. Be sure to plan your menu in advance, so you can request that your friends bring items. Also, arrive at least two hours before the game, so you can set up your area. For those of your friends not attending the game, make sure a television is available.
Home Parties
Have a pre-game party at your home. Create custom invitations to the party, with your team's logo printed on them. Have your friends place their invitations in a box as they enter the party. Have a raffle at halftime, with the winner getting tickets to a future game. Decorate your den, or bar area, with team memorabilia. Have all your guests wear team colors, or jerseys.
