Pro Power high protein dietary supplements are a line of weight lifting nutrition products that provide your body with the building blocks necessary for muscle gain. The line of products is created by ISS Research of Charlotte, North Carolina. These supplements are available through online retailers and health supplement stores around the United States. Types
As of November 2010, ISS Research has ceased to directly sell many of the products in the Pro Power line. However, the Pro Power Protein Shots are still available and are sold in grape and orange flavors. Other supplements in the Pro Power line, such as Complete meal replacement, Complete Creatine Effervescent, Pro-Paks vitamin mix and Pro42 protein bars, can still be purchased from online retailers.
Features
In a 2001 interview with Bodybuilding.com, ISS Research head of marketing Brian Wisniewski noted that Pro Power supplements were some of the first to be made without "corn syrup solids, gums, hydrogenated oils, or aspartame." The Pro Power line of products is designed to give you a large amount of your daily protein needs and other crucial vitamins and minerals for strength training. For example, Pro Power Protein Shots contain 32 g of protein in 2.9 fl. oz. The company's protein bars contain 42 g of protein in a 105 g bar, and have 100 percent of your daily vitamin A, C, E and zinc needs, among other nutrients.
Function
Pro Power protein supplements are designed to be added to your diet as a healthy replacement or addition to your current diet. When the products are taken in conjunction with a healthy diet and regular weight training program, ISS Research claims you will see significant gains in strength, muscle size and muscle hardness. Products like Pro Power Complete can be taken as a replacement to a small meal.
Significance
According to research at Ouro Preto University in Brazil and published in the November 2010 edition of the "European Journal of Nutrition," products such as Pro Power that contain whey protein protect muscles from the rigors of resistance training and can increase body mass. Whey protein was shown to increase the antioxidant defenses in the muscles of 32 male Fisher rats while they were subjected to an eight-week weight lifting program.
History
ISS Research was founded in July 1999 by Ron McAfee as a dietary supplement company that targets bodybuilders and more casual fitness seekers alike. The Pro Power line of products was introduced early with the Complete Whey Powder and Super Vitamin Pak. Additions to the line were made in the early 2000s, but were replaced with the Oh Yeah! and MPR line of products by the end of the decade.
