Some nights you don't have the time or the energy to cook up a five-course meal and you turn to the Taco Bell drive-through for dinner. Fast food can be a reasonable choice, but you should be aware of calorie contents so you don't overindulge.

Calories

The pinto beans and cheese side dish at Taco Bell, called Pintos 'n Cheese, comes in a serving size of 128 g, or about 4.5 oz. One serving has 170 calories and 6 g of fat.

Alternative

Taco Bell offers its lower-calorie "Fresco Style" menu. The Fresco Style pintos don't include cheese. A 135-g serving has 130 calories and about 4.5 g of fat.

Fat-Free Recipe

You can make a fat free version of the dish at home by using fat-free spicy refried beans, enchilada sauce and fat-free shredded cheddar cheese. The fat free version will have only 140 calories per serving and the fat content will drop to 0.5 g.
