Ingredients in Glucofast

Glucofast is an over-the-counter dietary supplement that claims to support weight loss and healthy blood glucose levels. The product contains a mix of all-natural ingredients, including vitamins, minerals and a blend of herbs. Speak with a doctor or pharmacist before taking Glucofast, as the product claims have not been evaluated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Proprietary Herbal Blend

A single serving of Glucofast contains 390mg of a proprietary herbal blend that consists of extracts of bitter melon, guggul, licorice bark and banaba leaf; powders of Gymnema Sylvestre, Ceylon cinnamon bark, huckleberry, yarrow leaves and juniper berry; and cayenne fruit. The makers of Glucofast claim these ingredients to be all-natural and safe to consume with no side effects, although these claims have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration.

Vitamins

Glucofast is a sufficient source of two important vitamins: biotin and vitamin C. A single serving of Glucofast contains 100 percent daily value of biotin and 83 percent daily value of vitamin C. Biotin is an important vitamin in glucose production and converting food into energy. Vitamin C acts as an antioxidant to protect the body from oxidative and free radical damage and plays a role in wound healing and neurotransmitter production, according to Harvard Medical School.

Minerals

Glucofast contains the minerals chromium, zinc, magnesium and manganese, with a single serving providing 56 percent, 50 percent, 31 percent and 50 percent daily values, respectively. Chromium helps regulate blood sugar levels by enhancing the activity of insulin. Zinc plays an important role in enzyme, protein and new cell formation and helps support the immune system. Magnesium helps in muscle contractions, blood clotting and bone formation. Manganese supports the metabolism of amino acids, cholesterol and carbohydrates, notes Harvard Medical School.

Other Ingredients

Additional ingredients in Glucofast include 50mg of alpha-lipoic acid, 25mg of L-taurine and 1mg of vanadyl sulfate. Vanadyl sulfate may help regulate blood glucose levels due to its insulin-like properties, according to Vanderbilt University. Alpha-lipoic acid is an antioxidant produced naturally by the body that plays a role in converting glucose to energy. Taurine is an amino acid that supports the nervous system and helps regulate fluid and salt balances in the body.
