Numerous herbal remedies may be helpful in treating your fungal infection. According to MedlinePlus, fungal infections often manifest in your lungs or on your skin. You have a greater likelihood of developing a fungal infection if your immune system is weak or if you take antibiotics. Athlete's foot and yeast infections are two common types of fungal infection. Before taking herbal remedies to help treat your fungal infection, talk with your doctor about possible side effects, proper dosage and potential drug interactions.

Garlic

According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, garlic, also known as Allium sativa, is a perennial plant native to Central Asia that is now cultivated throughout the world. Garlic, a member of the lily family, has a pungent taste and heating, stimulating and drying tendencies. The cloves of the plant are used medicinally to help treat numerous health problems, including fungal infections. Dr. Sharol Tilgner, a naturopathic physician and author of the book "Herbal Medicine From the Heart of the Earth," states that garlic is antibacterial, anti-parasitic and anti-fungal -- a substance that destroys or suppresses the growth of fungi. Tilgner cautions that consuming large amounts of garlic can reduce iodine uptake by your thyroid. Before taking garlic to help treat your fungal infection, talk with your doctor about possible side effects, proper dosage and potential drug interactions.

Tea Tree

Botanical.com states that tea tree, also known as Melaleuca alternifolia, has been used to help treat numerous health problems, including fungal infections. According to William A. Mitchell Jr., a naturopathic physician and author of the book "Plant Medicine in Practice," the tea tree is a small tree native to the northeast coastal region of New South Wales, Australia, where it was used for thousands of years by the Indigenous population of that area. The leaves and oil-of the plant are used medicinally as a fungicide. Mitchell states that tea tree is particularly effective in treating fungal infections caused by Tinea, Alternaria and Trichophyton species. Tea tree can also be used to help treat Trichomonas vaginalis and Candida albicans infections. Before using tea tree to help treat your fungal infection, talk with your doctor about possible side effects, proper dosage and potential drug interactions.

Pau D'Arco

According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, pau d'arco, also known as Tabebuia avellanedae, is an evergreen tree native to the warm parts of Central and South America. Pau d'arco, a member of the bignoniaceae family, has an astringent taste and drying and slightly warming tendencies. The bark of the tree is used medicinally to help treat numerous health problems, including fungal infections. Ed Smith, an herbalist and author of the book "Therapeutic Herb Manual," states that pau d'arco is an anti-tumor, antiviral and anti-fungal that enhances the function of your immune system and is particularly helpful in treating Candida and other yeast infections. Before taking pau d'arco to help treat your fungal infection, talk with your doctor about possible side effects, proper dosage and potential drug interactions.
