How to Lose Weight Fast and Drug Free

You can speed up your metabolism and lose weight without supplements or weight loss pills. A drug-free diet also has the advantage of being steady, so you won't crash and regain weight because you've suddenly decided you don't want to keep taking pills.

Step 1

Find ways to naturally increase your metabolism. While pills usually rely on stimulants such as caffeine to speed up metabolic rate, natural substances can do the same. Examples include green tea, spicy foods (especially hot peppers), nuts and fruits rich in vitamin E, such as grapefruit and kiwi.

Step 2

Don't skip breakfast. By the time you wake up, your body has gone several hours without food, which means your blood sugar is down, your metabolism is slow and your body is craving fuel (carbs). Eating a balanced breakfast of carbs and proteins will keep you full and steady your blood sugar for the rest of the day.

Step 3

Eat small, frequent meals throughout the day. If you let more than four hours go by without any food, your metabolism will naturally slow down to preserve energy. Instead, push it to burn more by eating frequently. Just keep portions small (about fist size) and make sure you include items from different food groups.

Step 4

Don't forget to exercise. The more weight you have to lose or the faster you want to lose it, the harder you should be exercising. A combination of cardio and resistance training is best for weight loss purposes. Aim for 45 to 60 minutes of daily exercise, mixing aerobic training (such as running, swimming, hiking or biking) with weight training. This will improve your muscle mass and make it easier to burn more calories.

Step 5

Concentrate on proteins and lower your carb intake considerably. While low-carb diets can have serious side effects if followed for long periods of time, they can help you jump-start your weight loss efforts or break you out of a plateau when followed for a week or two.

Step 6

Drink at least 10 glasses of water or non-caffeinated drinks a day. This includes herbal teas, diet drinks, seltzer water and vegetable juices. Avoid fruit juices when trying to lose weight fast, as they are high in sugar and can interfere with your diet plan. Liquids not only keep you hydrated and help you flush toxins, but they also make you feel fuller, so you end up eating less.
