APO Omeprazole is a brand name of omeprazole, and is more commonly sold as Prilosec. Prilosec is a medication designed to treat such ailments as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), duodenal ulcers and gastric ulcers. It also is used in over-the-counter or prescription-level strength to treat dyspepsia, a condition that produces indigestion, belching and a sour stomach. It can also be prescribed for Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Common Side Effects
APO Omeprazole can cause side effects that fade with continued use. The side effects generally do not require a doctor's attention unless they persist. Side effects include drowsiness, aches throughout the body, abdominal pain, sneezing, chest pain, a runny nose, constipation, congestion, cough, muscle pain, diarrhea, difficulty speaking, breathing difficulties, gas, dizziness, indigestion or congestion in the ears.
Serious Side Effects
APO Omeprazole works by preventing the stomach from producing too much acid for digestion. Whether the over-the-counter or prescription drug is used, APO Omeprazole can cause some rare side effects that should be reported immediately to your physician. These more serious side effects include back pain, unusual bruising, lip bleeding, crusting sores near the mouth, ulcers on the mouth or genitals, blisters, blood in the urine, skin rash, chills, itching, difficulty or pain while urinating, cramps, eye irritation, fever and decreased appetite.
Overdose
Side effects that can occur from taking too much APO Omeprazole also are serious and require emergency medical assistance. These types of side effects include vomiting, blurry vision, nausea, confusion, extra sweats, drowsiness, headaches, dry mouth, flushing of the skin and an irregular or rapid heartbeat.
