Myositis is a muscle disease that creates weakness and inflammation in your muscles. Myositis comes in several different forms, affecting different muscles of your body. Myositis is rare, affecting only five to 10 out of every million adults in the US, says the Arthritis Foundation. Symptoms may include pain, fatigue, weight loss or shortness of breath. Treatment for myositis typically involves medication, rest and physical therapy. Continuing an exercise routine with body myositis can be challenging.

Step 1

Consult with your doctor about what you want to do. He may want you to wait until drug treatment has begun to work before any strenuous exercise.

Step 2

Ask which stage of the disease you are in, and remain informed at all times. Muscle strength may be compromised if you are in an active flare up.

Step 3

Create an exercise routine with the help of your physical therapist and doctor. Focus on exercises that will improve your muscular strength and endurance. Resistance training and aerobic exercises like swimming and biking are good choices.

Step 4

Exercise during times when you are not in pain and your muscles are not in a weakened state. Pace yourself during workouts and do not do more than you are capable of on that specific day.

Step 5

Expand your exercise intensity and duration as your muscles become stronger and your endurance improves.
