The creation and regular use of shampoo is a luxury people have enjoyed for only a little more than a century. Before shampoo, hair was treated with harsh soaps and perfumes to hide the smell of dirty hair, due mostly to the fact that science didn't understand hair well enough to come up with a proper way to keep it clean. Thankfully, understanding of hair has evolved to the point of creating a number of shampoos and hair products, many of which you can easily make yourself right in your own home.
