The adrenal glands contain biological processes that burn energy and break down cellular structures. When you are stressed out or use up a lot of energy and then do not let yourself recover, you could suffer from exhaustion. This makes you susceptible to illness, according to the "Yoga Journal." Adrenal exhaustion can also cause depression, headaches, low metabolism and muscle weakness. Strengthening your adrenal glands through supplements and yoga can lessen symptoms of adrenal exhaustion, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't still slow down and rest when needed. You should always consult your physician before taking supplements.

Supplements

Step 1

Take two capsules of an adrenal gland extract at 8 a.m., recommends Carolyn DeMarco, M.D., a specialist in alternative medicine and women's health, in "Alive" magazine. Take two capsules in the afternoon as well, ideally around 3 to 4 p.m. Continue for three to six months.

Step 2

Take 500mg of vitamin C four times a day. The adrenals utilize more vitamin C than any other cell, says Dr. DeMarco.

Step 3

Take 500mg of pantothenic acid four times a day along with the vitamin C.

Step 4

Make enough licorice tea to last the day. Carry the tea around in a thermos and drink it steadily throughout the day.

Viparita Karani

Step 1

Practice Viparita Karani, a yoga exercise recommended for adrenal support by "Yoga Journal." It decreases nerve input to the adrenal glands, slows brain waves, relaxes blood vessels and decreases heart rate. Place a folded blanket or blankets on the floor near a wall. Sit on the blankets and lean back until your back and neck are flat on the floor with your pelvis supported by the blankets.

Step 2

Slide your legs up the wall and straighten your knees to press your legs into the wall. Relax your legs into the wall and let your upper body sink into the floor as you breathe deeply through your nose.

Step 3

Bend your knees and cross your legs to increase the time you can comfortably stay in the pose. Open your hips so your knees move toward the wall. Stay in the pose as long as you can without discomfort.

Supported Sukhasana

Step 1

Sit in front of a padded chair to perform supported sukhasana, a relaxing yoga pose recommended by "Yoga Journal" for recharging tired adrenals. Cross your legs.

Step 2

Put a folded blanket on the chair seat and bend forward from the waist to rest your arms and forehead on the blanket. Add blankets until you are comfortable.

Step 3

Relax your neck and back and breathe deeply through your nose. Remain in this position for as long as you feel comfortable.
