Cheese sticks, also known as fried cheese or mozzarella sticks, are made from mozzarella that has been coated in batter and deep-fried. They are a favorite of fairgoers and are frequently offered as appetizers in restaurants.

Calories

Fried cheese sticks are predictably high in calories. Just one cheese stick has 89 calories, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. A serving of this treat may have five or more cheese sticks, resulting in the consumption of 445 or more calories.

Basic Nutrition

Cheese sticks provide a double whammy of fat, since cheese is already high in fat and the sticks are battered and fried, allowing the batter to soak up additional fat. One cheese stick contains 5 g of fat, 2 g of which are saturated. Eat five of them, and you'll be consuming a whopping 25 g of fat.

A cheese stick provides 4 g of protein and 7 g of carbohydrates.

Vitamins and Minerals

You'll get a boost of calcium when you eat cheese sticks, as one cheese stick provides almost 100 mg of this nutrient. Cheese sticks also have small amounts of zinc, iron and several of the B vitamins.
