Some foods were once believed to magically get people in the mood for sex. Although these foods are not magic, they are considered aphrodisiacs, or foods that raise the libido. Some foods contain vitamins and minerals that help stimulate the body's sex drive. Although these foods may not automatically guarantee a better sex life, they can give you all the right tools for adequate sexual performance. Sink your teeth into a libido-raising food before bed, or feed it to your partner to prepare for a romantic evening together.
Oysters
Oysters contain zinc, which helps to create additional testosterone and sperm in men. Additionally, the dopamine in oysters helps strengthen libido in both men and women. Oysters may even get you and your partner in the mood by simply eating them. Raw oysters eaten directly out of the shell are a sensual activity, especially if the food is shared with your partner.
Fruits and Vegetables
Bananas, according to Derrick Nelson of "Ask Men" magazine, contain bromelain, which raises libido in men and contains potassium, which can help a woman's thyroid gland work properly. Avocados are a libido-booster for both men and women, containing both vitamin B6, which raises the creation of male hormones, and potassium, which provides the same thyroid gland benefits as eating bananas. Eating celery produces androsterone in men. When a man sweats after eating celery, it releases androsterone, which can increase sex drive in women.
Nuts
Nuts, like almonds and pine nuts, contain omega-3 fatty acids, which help produce male hormones. Pine nuts also contain zinc, which stimulates the sex drive in the same way oysters do--they help increase the production of testosterone and sperm. Avoid eating too many nuts, because they are high in fat, but a handful or two can help get you in the mood.
Chocolate
Not only is chocolate a sensual food in taste and texture, it also contains a chemical called "phenylethylamine," which can mimic the same feeling in the body as being in love, according to Nelson. Chocolate also contains caffeine and theobromine, a chemical similar to caffeine, which energizes the body and increases heart rate.
