Medical News Today recommends that you always choose whole-grain foods over white, refined foods in order to maintain healthy blood sugar levels. Specifically, it suggests you eliminate white rice and white pasta from your diet, and replace them with brown rice and whole-grain pasta. According to Mayo Clinic, whole-grain foods contain fiber, which can slow absorption of glucose in your blood, helping to improve blood sugar levels. A diet high in fiber may be associated with a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Fresh And Raw Fruits And Vegetables

According to Mayo Clinic, fresh and raw foods, such as fruits and vegetables, may help keep your blood sugars at a stable and healthy level. Choose these types of foods over processed and canned products that may contain hidden additives and sugars. The Mayo Clinic reports that these fresh, raw foods are generally low-glycemic, tending to raise your blood sugar levels at a slower, steadier rate than those with a high glycemic index.

Lean Sources Of Protein

The National Institutes of Health recommends that people with diabetes include two to three servings of meat and fish in their daily diets. Choose lean sources of protein, including skinless chicken, wild salmon, tuna and wild game. Eating healthy proteins in meals with balanced carbohydrates and fats can help control your blood sugar levels.
