Half the people who try DrNatura's Colonix like the diet, according to Diets in Review.com. Considering that DrNatura claims to have served over 1 million customers in 50 countries over the last decade, that would account for a lot of satisfied customers. It takes about three months to complete the Colonix program. During that time, you're kept to a strict regimen of supplements and fiber-rich beverages, which are meant to help you drop unwanted pounds. Diets in Review.com says it's estimated that you can lose 3 to 20 lbs during the process. Like all herbal supplements, however, DrNatura products do not require approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
How Colonix Works
DrNatura uses two programs in its approach to cleansing and detoxification. Colonix products claim to cleanse your digestive tract and promote regularity, while Toxinout claims to detoxify while replenishing healthy bacteria that should be in your system. The editorial staff of "Natural Healing Today, The Alternative Health Magazine," in an article rating its top 10 cleansing system picks, named Colonix its No. 1 choice. Detoxification regimens have become a commonly recommended therapy by natural health practitioners for good reason, the article states. A well-cleansed colon allows nutrients to absorb better and aids in digestion, which can help prevent you from gaining weight. The claim has not been verified by a medical oversight organization.
Function
You are accustomed to cleaning and taking proper care of the outside of your body, but it's important to care for the inside of your body, too, says DrNatura staff member Heather Johnstone, Ph.D. "[We] are eating more sugar and processed foods than ever before in human history and regularly abuse our bodies with various stimulants and sedatives," Johnstone states on the DrNatura website. The Colonix program encourages a healthy diet that avoids saturated- and trans-fats along with refined and processed foods.
How Often to Repeat
DrNatura recommends sticking to the Colonix program for 90 days the first time you use its cleansing products. After that, one to two months may be sufficient every six to 12 months to stay internally fit. The website recommends using both the Colonix and Toxinout programs for 30 or 60 days and points out that everyone's body may react to the regimen differently, and you may take a different length of time to achieve maximum results than other people.
Who Should Not Use Colonix
Colonix is not recommended for pregnant or nursing women. The program's KleriTea contains senna, a laxative, and should not be used by pregnant or nursing women. The Colonix program is not recommended for children younger than 18 years old. It's always a good idea to check with your physician before beginning a new treatment, especially if you have a health condition or take other drugs, herbs or supplements. If you are also planning on undergoing the Toxinout regimen, be aware that one of the program's capsules contains wheat grass, which the Mayo Clinic warns may cause serious side effects if you have a wheat allergy.
Ingredients
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration does not regulate herbs and supplements, and you should read product labels to know what you are ingesting. All three Colonix products have a long list of ingredients. Colonix fiber contains 73 percent soluble psyllium husk fiber, which the Mayo Clinic states may cause gas, stomach pain, diarrhea, constipation or nausea. The rest of the fiber is insoluble, and contains flax seed, which the Mayo Clinic states may cause, gas, bloating or diarrhea effects. KleriTea contains senna, an oral stimulant laxative, which are more likely to cause side effects than other laxatives, according to the Mayo Clinic. Side effects of Senna may include confusion, irregular heartbeat, muscle cramps and skin rash, among other conditions.
