For those who are watching their weight, counting calories is a big part of every day. Making sure no extra calories are sneaking their way into a diet means investigating all foods and beverages, even coffee, before consuming.

Definition

The International Coffee Organization explains that coffee is considered decaffeinated if its caffeine content has been reduced to .1 percent or less in coffee beans that have been roasted or to .3 percent or less for instant coffee.

Calorie Count

TheCalorieCounter.com reports that decaffeinated coffee brewed from grounds contains nine calories per 8-oz. cup, and instant decaffeinated coffee contains four calories in 1 tsp.
