Kretschmer Wheat Germ, a product of Quaker Oats Company, is a concentration of several essential vitamins and minerals taken from the core of the wheat kernel. Wheat germ, a source of vitamin E, folic acid and protein, adds a crunchy, nutty taste to side dishes and breakfast cereals. The Honey Crunch variety is slightly sweeter than the Original Kretschmer Wheat Germ.

Serving Size and Varieties

A single serving of Kretschmer Wheat Germ equals 2 tbsp or 13 g. Kretschmer comes in two varieties, Original Toasted and Honey Crunch. A single serving of Honey Crunch Wheat Germ equals 14 g.

Calories, Fat, Cholesterol, Sodium and Potassium

One serving of the Original Toasted wheat germ has 50 calories with 10 calories from fat and a total fat content of 1 g, which is polyunsaturated fat. Original has no cholesterol, no sodium and 140 mg of potassium. Honey Crunch also has 50 calories with 10 calories from fat, 1 g of total fat, no sodium and 135 mg of potassium. Among other things, potassium helps to maintain a normal balance of water within body cells; it also activates a number of enzymes, especially those concerned with energy production.

Carbohydrates and Protein

A single serving of Kretschmer Original Toasted wheat germ provides 6 g of total carbohydrates with 2 g of dietary fiber, 1 g of sugars and 4 g of protein. Honey Crunch provides 8 g of total carbohydrates with 1 g of dietary fiber, 3 g of sugars and 4 g of protein.

Vitamins and Minerals

Wheat germ is naturally a rich source of vitamin E and folic acid. Vitamin E functions as an antioxidant, an anti-blood clotting agent and blood vessel dilator, while folic acid helps to metabolize RNA and DNA, helps in blood formation and genetic code transmission. Kretschmer's Original provides 6 percent daily value of iron, 10 percent daily value of magnesium, zinc, and phosphorus, 15 percent of thiamin and 20 percent of vitamin E and folic acid. The Honey Crunch provides 8 percent daily value of magnesium, 10 percent of zinc, phosphorus, thiamin and iron and 20 percent of vitamin E and folic acid.

Ingredients

The ingredients of Original Toasted wheat germ include wheat germ, vitamin E acetate and folic acid -- a B vitamin. The Honey Crunch contains wheat germ, sugar syrup, corn syrup, molasses, honey, vitamin E acetate and folic acid.
