Losing weight is more effective when you do so by eating healthy meals and getting plenty of exercise. In addition, you lower your risk of developing heart disease and diabetes. Learning to prepare healthy meals that incorporate foods from all the food groups will help you as you transition to a lifestyle that promotes healthy weight loss.

Egg Dishes

Eggs are low in calories but high in protein, which helps you feel satisfied until your next meal. Serving an egg dish for breakfast, lunch or dinner is a healthy and quick way to lose weight, and the options are almost limitless when it comes to the versatility of eggs. People who eat an egg in the morning have reported feeling less hungry before lunch than people who don't, reports "Fitness" magazine. Prepare an egg frittata or quiche with fresh or frozen vegetables and a sprinkle of low-fat cheese on top. An egg is a good base for a meal when served alongside a bowl of fruit. Quick weight loss is possible by incorporating eggs into your diet because they help prevent overeating and have only 70 calories each.

Spaghetti

Using spaghetti squash in place of pasta allows you to enjoy a meal that is often high in calories. When you cook and scoop out the squash, it looks like spaghetti, and you can then top it with your favorite tomato-based sauce. Skip creamy sauces, as they are very high in fat and calories. Spaghetti squash contains fiber, potassium and vitamin C, which are important for healthy digestion, blood pressure and immunity. If you substitute 2 cups of spaghetti squash for 2 cups of whole wheat pasta, you will save about 200 calories.

Fish

Not only is fish low in calories, but it contains heart-healthy fats. Eating fish rather than red meat eliminates unwanted calories and unhealthy fats; additionally, fish has plenty of protein to make it satisfying. Fish is versatile and can be grilled, roasted or baked. Serve a 3-oz. piece of fish with a tossed salad or a portion of brown rice for a meal that will promote fast weight loss. Choose fish that isn't high in mercury to protect your health. Healthy choices include salmon, tilapia and tuna -- but stay away from king mackerel, shark and tilefish.
