The Fitness Gear 830T may not be for sale anymore, but new walking belts may be ordered online. The walking belt on your Fitness Gear will go out eventually. A lot of pressure is placed on the belt as it runs and the friction of the belt, not to mention the stress placed on it by your feet, will cause the belt to tear or come apart at some point. Replacing the treadmill belt on a Fitness Gear 830T is a standard process that requires no more than the wrenches that came with your machine and possibly some other basic tools.
Step 1
Turn the treadmill off and unplug it completely. Remove the key.
Step 2
Take the hood off from the front of the treadmill by removing the screws that hold it in place using a Phillips screwdriver. Use a flat head screwdriver to remove any plastic coverings or clips on the side rails and lift the hood up and off.
Step 3
Remove the rear end caps and rear adjustment bolts counterclockwise on the sides of the back of the treadmill with the hex tool that came with the treadmill. Pay attention to how the bolts come off and how many times you turned them so you can put them back the same way. Slide the rear roller off the belt and set aside.
Step 4
Use the wrench or hex tool to remove the front roller bolt. Take the drive belt off the end of the roller. Take out the front roller so that it is clear of the walking belt.
Step 5
Use the Phillips screwdriver to take out any screws that secure the walking belt to the platform. Use a pair of pliers or a flat head screwdriver to pry off any staples holding the belt down.
Step 6
Lift the platform up and slide the walking belt off of it. Put a new belt in its place and lower the platform back into its original position. Put the screws back in to secure the new belt. Reverse the directions to replace the front and rear rollers and all of the belts. Be sure to only turn the adjustment bolts clockwise the same number of turns as you did when removing them.
Step 7
Check that the walking belt is at the correct tension by kneeling next to the left side of the platform. Raise the belt 2 to 3 inches off the deck. If the belt raises within this amount, the belt is tensioned correctly. Loosen the belt by turning the bolts counterclockwise until the belt lifts two to three inches. Tighten the belt by turning the bolts clockwise if you can raise the belt higher than 3 inches. Adjust the bolts the same number of turns or partial turns on each side.
Step 8
Turn the treadmill on and let it run by itself for at least five minutes before you use it.
Tips and Warnings
- The new walking belt should come pre-lubricated. If you need to add lubricant in the future, apply a thin layer across the center of the platform under the belt.
