With so much buzz about the benefits of yogurt, many people reason that frozen yogurt must be just as healthy. While low-fat frozen yogurt has some advantages over traditional ice cream, dieters are wise to limit their intake of this creamy treat.

Calories

A cup of low-fat frozen yogurt contains 214 calories, according to FatSecret; of these, 26 calories come from fat.

Nutrition Facts

One cup of low-fat frozen yogurt provides nearly 3 g of fat, with 1.88 g coming from saturated fat. It also contains 10 mg cholesterol, 120 mg sodium, nearly 40 g carbohydrates, less than 1 g fiber, 38 g sugar, 9.4 g protein and 32 percent of the daily value for calcium.

Considerations

A serving of low-fat frozen yogurt is lower in calories and fat than an equal amount of ice cream, making it a good alternative for people watching their calorie intake. However, it's very high in sugar and still contains a considerable amount of calories; if you're trying to lose weight, make frozen yogurt an occasional treat, and if you have to add toppings, choose fruit over candy, cookie bits or sugary syrups.
