Special K Cereal was introduced in 1956 by the Kellogg's Company, promoting itself as the first high-protein, low-fat breakfast cereal fortified with seven vitamins and iron. This is how it got its "special" title.

Over the years Kellogg's has developed a variety of Special K-branded products which include cereals, cereal bars, snack bars, meal bars, bliss bars, waffles, crackers, protein shakes and protein water mixes. All are marketed as being great tasting and nutritious.

Ingredients of Special K Cereal
The ingredients that make Special K low fat and high protein are rice, wheat gluten, defatted wheat germ, dried whey and calcium caseinate. The cereal is fortified with vitamins C, E, B, B2, B1, A, B12, niacinamide, folic acid and the mineral reduced iron. The cereal sugars come from table sugar, high fructose corn syrup and malt flavoring.
