Most of the calories in beer come from the alcohol and the residual sugars that remain after fermentation. There are many beers that fit the description of a low-calorie beverage.

Regular Beer

Regular beer usually contains about 150 calories per 12-oz. bottle. Among regular beers from major brewers, Rolling Rock Premium Beer is lowest at 120 calories. Miller Genuine Draft and Miller High Life tie at second with 143 calories. Following are Budweiser at 145 calories and Coors at 149 calories.

Light Beer

Budweiser Select is advertised as the "The Lightest Beer in the World" at 55 calories in a 12-oz. bottle. The lager is 2.4 percent alcohol and contains only 1.9 g of carbohydrate. Other specially formulated light beers under 70 calories include Becks Premier Light and Miller Genuine Draft Light 64.

Microbrews

Carolina Lighthouse is made by Carolina Beer Company in Mooresville, North Carolina. A 12-oz. bottle contains 81 calories, 4 percent alcohol and 4.2 g of carbohydrate.

Non-Alcoholic Beer

A non-alcoholic beer by definition contains less than 0.5 percent alcohol by volume. As of November 2010, Free Damm has the fewest calories, at 35 calories per 12 oz. Sharp's by MillerCoors contains 58 calories, most of which comes from its 12 g of carbohydrate. O'Doul's by Anheuser-Busch has 70 calories per 12 oz.
