Canned soups are convenient to use when you have no time to spare. Many broth-based soups are low in calories. Cream soups usually contain more calories than broth-based soups.
Calories
A cup of canned tomato soup contains 90 calories, 10 of which are from fat. There are 62 calories in a cup of canned chicken noodle soup. Canned vegetable soup contains 80 calories a cup. Canned chicken broth contains 78 calories a cup. One cup of canned cream of mushroom soup contains 206 calories. Canned cream of asparagus soup contains 174 calories a cup.
Soups Containing Beans
Canned bean and frank soup is higher in calories than some of the other soups. This soup contains 373 calories per cup. Black bean soup contains 234 calories per cup.
Suggestions
If you want to keep your calorie intake down, avoid cream soups and soups that contain beans and meat. The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute recommends broth soups in a can over cream soups. When preparing canned soup, add water instead of milk to cut calories.
