A Waldorf salad is a mix of foods that is not low in calories, but is a good source of quality protein and calcium. Although a Waldorf salad contains fat, much of the fat it contains is healthy monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fat.

Features

A Waldorf salad typically contains walnuts, apples, celery, raisins, yogurt, sugar and lemon juice, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The two large apples in this dessert contain more calories than any of the other ingredients.

Calorie Facts

One-quarter cup of English walnuts contains approximately 191 calories, according to the USDA's National Nutrient Database. Two large apples total 208 calories. A cup of celery contains 16 calories. One-half cup of seedless raisins contains 246.5 calories. One-quarter cup of non-fat plain yogurt contains 31.75 calories. There are 8 calories in a ½-teaspoon of sugar. A 2/3-cup serving of Waldorf salad contains 110 calories, 30 of which are from fat.

Suggestions

To keep your calorie count in check, consider putting fewer walnuts and raisins in your Waldorf salad. You can also lower the calorie content by using an artificial sweetener.
