Balsamic salad dressing can be made at home, purchased at the grocery store or ordered at a restaurant with your favorite salad. Calories will vary based on serving size and the amount of oil used in the recipe.
Calories
The main source of calories in balsamic salad dressing is the fat in the oil. The more oil, the more calories. A recipe that calls for a 2 to 1 ratio of oil to vinegar contains 175 calories in 2 tablespoons while a 1 to 1 ratio has 133 calories in 2 tablespoons.
Considerations
Bottled balsamic salad dressing can have less calories than homemade. A popular brand has only 60 calories in 2 tablespoons, but also contains more sodium. Homemade versions have 150 to 197mg of sodium while the bottled has 280. Spritzers have only 10 calories in 10 sprays, but also contain 130mg of sodium.
Warning
Watch out for the Citrus Balsamic Vinaigrette served at Chili's Restaurant. It contains 250 calories and 220mg of sodium in a 1-gram serving. Of those calories, 230 come from fat.
