Thick, silky hair may be hard to obtain because your hair is prone to poor health due to several conditions, such as age, pattern hair loss, skin infections and overuse of styling products and tools. Certain supplements are available that will help to promote long, thick and silky hair.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A stimulates synthesis of retinoic inside hair follicles, which is beneficial for hair growth. Vitamin A also enhances the production of sebum, a natural human oil that helps to make your hair thick by keeping it hydrated and fresh, according to Melanie Grimes of Natural News. In addition, vitamin A aids the body in dealing with stress, a factor that contributes to hair loss in some individuals.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant vitamin and contains antioxidant properties that function to protect your hair from damaging substances called free radicals. Free radicals may harm your hair, causing it to turn brittle and dry. According to Natural News, vitamin E helps to make your grow long by encouraging blood flow in your scalp. This results in excessive hair growth by increasing the speed of the hair growth cycle.

Biotin

Biotin, also called vitamin H, helps to keep your firm and can be found in a variety of cosmetic products for the hair and nails. A biotin deficiency is rare, but can occur, resulting in potential hair loss. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, biotin supplements may be able to help improve hair that is thin, brittle and splitting. In addition, biotin can be used in combination with a topical clobetasol propionate and zinc to treat hair disorders like alopecia.
