Orville Redenbacher developed his first popping corn in 1965. After selling his company to ConAgra Foods in 1983, the brand expanded to include both conventional and microwave popcorns. Orville Redenbacher made 27 varieties of popcorn in November 2010, according to its website, ranging from 100-calorie packages to higher-calorie flavors like caramel and pour-over cheddar.
Popping Kernels
Orville Redenbacher produces both microwave popcorn and popping corn kernels. One 30-oz. jar of its original and white gourmet kernels makes 126 cups of popped corn. One 6-cup serving has 120 calories, 10 of which come from the 1.5 g of fat in each serving.
Original Microwave Popcorn
The red-box variety of Orville Redenbacher popcorn represents more than half of the brand's offerings. Calorie contents range from 120 per 5.5-cup serving of light butter to 170 per 2-cup serving of caramel corn.
Natural
Seven varieties of Orville Redenbacher's natural popcorn feature whole-grain corn and no added flavorings or preservatives. A 5-cup serving of natural butter has 170 calories, while the 50 percent less fat natural butter flavor contains 120 calories in a 5.5-cup serving. The buttery garlic version has 230 calories in the same size serving.
SmartPop
The brand's low-calorie blend is sold as Smart Pop. One 7.5-cup serving of Smart Pop Kettle Korn has 140 calories. A 6.5-cup bag of butter contains 110 calories.
