If you're struggling to lose weight, you may find meal-replacement diets helpful. They help control calories without the need to count any. Although it's not marketed as a weight-loss supplement, a mix such as Spiru-Tein may work for you as meal replacement to help you limit your calorie intake and lose a few pounds. Spiru-Tein Nutrition

Spiru-Tein is a plant-based, high-protein meal replacement. One scoop of the powdered product has 99 calories, zero grams of fat, 11 grams of carb, 1 gram of fiber and 14 grams of protein. It also meets 100 percent of the daily value for a number of vitamins and minerals, including vitamins A, C, D and E, all of the B vitamins, iodine and zinc. It's also high in calcium, iron, phosphorus, selenium and molybdenum and meets 250 percent of the daily value for manganese.

Weight loss isn't as complicated as some diets make it out to be. It's a matter of creating a negative calorie balance, which means eating fewer calories than you burn each day. Spiru-Tein is a low-calorie meal replacement, which may help you save a few calories if you drink it instead of eating your usual meal. Reducing your daily calorie intake by 250 calories a day can help you lose up to 1/2 pound a week. Due to its high vitamin and mineral content, and to maintain a balanced diet, you may want to limit Spiru-Tein as a meal replacement to once a day.

Mixing Suggestions

To save the most calories, mix Spiru-Tein with water. But as a low-calorie powder, you may be able to mix it with other fluids to add flavor without adding too many additional calories. For example, mixing it with 1 cup of nonfat milk adds 90 calories, 12 grams of carbs and 8 grams of protein. You can also use a plant-based milk alternative if you're trying to limit your intake of animal products. Soy milk is a good choice with 130 calories, 15 grams of carbs, 8 grams of protein and 4 grams of fat per cup. Choose unsweetened plant-based milks to keep your calorie and sugar intakes low.

Considerations

Using Spiru-Tein may help you save calories to lose weight, but you might have a hard time sticking with it if eating the same thing day after day gets boring for you. Using different flavors and fluids to mix your Spiru-Tein may help prevent diet boredom. Also, once you lose the weight, you may have a hard time keeping it off if you don't continue to either use the meal-replacement supplement or limit your calorie intake.
