When you choose herbs to address snoring and congestion, focus treatment on the causes of the condition and on assisting your body's natural healing abilities, says the University of Maryland Medical Center. Herbs are an alternative approach to medicine, says UMMC, and natural remedies to treat ailments have been used for centuries. However, it is important to be aware of any interactions herbs may have with other medications you are taking.

Ginger

According to VitaminStuff.com, ginger may be consumed raw, as a tea, or added to other foods. It is the root of the perennial ginger plant that is used for its medicinal herbal properties. Ginger is used for a variety of ailments, including congestion and colds. The root may loosen phlegm and spread a warm feeling throughout the chest. This may also help relieve snoring. Ginger may be taken in capsules as well. Suggested amounts of fresh ginger is approximately 1/3 oz. per day.

Echinacea

Echinacea is found in eastern North America. This perennial plant has the appearance of a purple black-eyed Susan with the herbal properties being found in the roots. Echinacea prevents germs from destroying healthy cells and may decrease inflammation. Echinacea has long been used for upper respiratory ailments and may boost the immune system. This may contribute to decreased snoring and congestion.

Fenugreek

Fenugreek originates in Greece, where its seeds have been used for numerous health issues, including bronchial problems. Besides helping relieve bronchitis, fenugreek is an anti-inflammatory and may sooth sore throats. You can find fenugreek in capsules, powders and tinctures, teas, seeds and sprouted seeds.
