Cervical cancer, which initiates in the cervix, is the third most common type of cancer in women. The development of cervical cancer may be slow and can be detected by a pap smear. The National Institutes of Health reports that almost all cervical cancers are caused by the human papilloma virus, or HPV, which spreads through sexual intercourse. Certain herbs and spices may play a beneficial role in the prevention of this cancer.

Garlic

Garlic is a common spice often used for medicinal purposes. A 2006 study in the journal "In Vivo" reported that both epidemiological and animal studies indicate garlic consumption can reduce the risk of developing cancer, including cancer of the stomach, colon, breast and cervix. Add this spice to stir-fry dishes and soups for an extra boost in both nutrition and cancer-protecting properties.

Turmeric

The University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) reports that herbs are a safe way to both strengthen and tone your body's systems, helping to protect you from cervical dysplasia. Cervical dysplasia occurs when abnormal cells grow on the surface of the cervix, indicating precancerous or cancerous cells. This condition may lead to cervical cancer, which can be fatal. UMMC recommends turmeric as a safe spice to consume for cervical dysplasia prevention. The center recommends an extract of 300 mg three times per day to protect against inflammation. You can purchase this spice in most grocery stores; it is also in some condiments, such as mustard.

Green Tea

Green tea may play a role in preventing cervical dysplasia, helping to protect against the development of cervical cancer. UMMC suggests taking a dose of 250 to 500 mg of this herb daily to gain antioxidant and immune benefits. You can also brew the herb as a tea and enjoy three cups of it daily.
