Flaxseed oil, derived from the seeds of the flax plant, has omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. The essential fatty acid in flaxseed oil may help prevent cancer, high cholesterol, cardiovascular disease and immune disorders such as arthritis, reports the University of Maryland Medical Center. It is oil, however, so it also provides calories.

Calories

Capsules of flaxseed oil generally contain 1 g of flaxseed oil. One gram of flaxseed oil contains 9 calories, according to CalorieKing.

Fat

One capsule of flaxseed oil has 1 g of fat, providing 2 percent of the daily value. It provides a negligible amount of the daily value of saturated fat, according to CalorieKing.

Nutrition

A flaxseed oil capsule provides some vitamin E, but few other vitamins or minerals, according to the United States Department of Agriculture. Some manufacturers may supplement the oil with additional nutrients. For example, Nature Made flaxseed oil capsules have 333 percent of the daily value of vitamin C, 167 percent of calcium and 556 percent of iron, according to MyCalorieCounter.com.

Dosage

Recommended dosages can range from 2 tsp. to 3 tsp. per day, suggests Spine Universe. This would amount to about 14 capsules and would contain about 120 calories.
