Metabolife Ultra is an appetite suppressant that, combined with diet and exercise, is supposed to help people lose weight. Metabolife Ultra was created in 2004 to replace Metabolife 356, a product that contained ephedra, an ingredient that researchers found contributed to serious cardiovascular problems. In addition to the regular Metabolife Ultra, you can purchase a caffeine-free version or a version made with green tea.
Vitamins
Metabolife Ultra contains several common vitamins: niacin, thiamin, riboflavin and pantothenic acid.
Minerals
Metabolife Ultra includes calcium, sodium, potassium and chromium.
Garcinia Extract
Metabolife Ultra calls its patented form of garcinia extract SuperCitrimax, but like other forms of garcinia extract, SuperCitrimax is a form of hydroxycitric acid. Hydroxycitric acid remains a popular ingredient in weight loss aids, even though several studies---including a 1998 study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association---found that garcinia extract has no effect on weight loss success.
Guarana Extract
Metabolife Ultra also contains caffeine in the form of guarana extract. Guarana plants, which grow in the Amazon regions of South America, produce berries with high levels of caffeine. Because caffeine is a stimulant, it creates a short-lived surge of energy and can help prevent you from feeling tired. Though caffeine speeds up your heart rate, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration classifies it as safe for use by most people. Metabolife Ultra recommends people who are sensitive to caffeine or who have high blood pressure avoid taking Metabolife Ultra.
Additives
Metabolife also includes several additives, including maltodextrin, dextrose, modified cellulose, lecithin, dicalcium phosphate, stearic acid, silica, dextrin, sodium carboxymethylcellulose and sodium citrate. These ingredients help to bind the mixture together, thicken it and prevent it from caking.
