Boys ages 4 to 8 should eat about 1,400 to 2,000 calories per day, according to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. Young males ages 9 to 13 need approximately 1,800 to 2,600 calories every day, while teenage boys ages 14 to 19 require roughly 2,200 to 3,000 calories daily.
Calorie Guidelines for Men
Adult men ages 20 to 30 should consume about 2,400 to 3,000 calories each day, and those ages 31 to 50 require approximately 2,200 to 3,000 calories daily. As men reach age 51 and older, their calorie needs often decrease slightly, with most needing about 2,000 to 2,800 calories per day.
Diet Considerations
