Detox diets are popular diets that are designed to remove toxins from the body and clean the liver, kidneys and other vital organs. These diets are controversial because of disagreements on their effectiveness and should be followed with care and attention to your overall good health.

Colonetix Pills

Colonetix pills are an herbal supplement made of natural ingredients that are designed to cleanse your colon and internal systems. Users simply take two pills twice a day on an empty stomach. With Colonetix pills, there are no rigid dietary restrictions. However, you're encouraged to eat high-fiber foods and plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Raw Food Diet

When you cook food, it can lose up to 85 percent of its nutritional value. Thus, the Raw Food Diet cleanses the body by allowing only uncooked, "living" foods such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and whole grains. These live foods contain living enzymes and nutrients that are critical for the body and its systems. Raw foods generally provide lots of energy, are easy to digest and lack artificial ingredients or refining.

Jay Robb's Fruit Flush

This diet is based on Jay Robb's book of the same title. It's designed mainly as a weight loss diet, but also has inherent detox qualities. For two to three days, you eat only fresh fruit, and you're encouraged not to exercise during the early days of this diet for maximum results. Robb also encourages you to add a protein powder when following this diet to round out its nutritional qualities.

21-Day Cleanse

The 21-Day Cleanse is based on a Kathy Freston book that helps you find a healthy mind and body. The 21-Day Cleanse is a vegetarian diet that takes a holistic approach to detox and cleansing. Included in the routine are exercise, spiritual practice and meditation, and it encourages you to consider what you're eating rather than just following a list of foods.

Master Cleanser Lemonade Diet

The Master Cleanser Lemonade Diet is derived from a Stanley Burroughs book written in the 1940s. The Master Cleanser is perhaps the most difficult to follow because it's essentially a liquid-only diet, but often is reported as effective for full-body detox. The key components of the Lemonade Diet are water, maple syrup "Smooth Move" laxative tea and cayenne pepper.
