Potato chips are a popular food in America; Health Magazine reports that an average of six billion dollars of potato chips are consumed each year. Many types of potato chips are high in fat and calories, and should not be consumed regularly. However, several brands offer healthier versions of potato chips, but it is important to eat them in moderate amounts as well.
Corazonas Heart Healthy Potato Chips
Corazonas' Mediterranean and Garlic Herb Heart Healthy Potato Chips are considered to be a healthy potato chip choice by Health Magazine. They have 140 calories and 6 grams of fat per 1 oz. serving, with 0.5 grams of saturated fat. Corazonas claims that their potato chips can help lower cholesterol by 5 to 14 percent because they are made using plant sterols, which reduce the amount of cholesterol your body absorbs. Other Corazonas flavors available in 2010 include Italiano 4 Cheese, Parmesan Peppercorn, Lightly Salted, Sea Salt and Vinegar and Spicy Rio Habanero.
Kettle Brand
The Kettle Brand of baked potato chips receives a nod from Health Magazine because their chips aren't fried like many other potato chips. Each 1 oz. serving contains 120 calories and 3 grams of fat. These healthy potato chips have no saturated fat and are lower in sodium than other varieties. The Kettle Brand company says their baked potato chips have 65 percent less fat than traditional versions. These baked chips come in flavors that include salt and pepper, salt and vinegar, white cheddar and barbecue.
Pop Chips All Natural Original
With only 120 calories and 4.5 grams of fat -- none of which is saturated -- per 1 oz. serving, Pop Chips All Natural Original Potato Chips make the list of Health Magazine's healthiest potato chips. Rather than baking or frying their chips, the Pop Chips company uses heat and pressure to pop the potato slices into a chip, reducing the amount of unhealthy oils that most potato chips are cooked in. In addition to the original flavor, Pop Chips are also available in barbecue, sour cream and onion, cheddar, sea salt and vinegar, salt and pepper and Parmesan garlic varieties.
